I've been in a flare

A "flare" is when my PSA symptoms are at their worse and/or additional ones make their debut. : (

Breaking point was last night, when I had an hour of nonstop back spasms, which left me in agony. I had been treating this with a rotation of ice and heat. Nothing helped last night, I could barely move, but eventually, after about 40 minutes, made it from the couch to bed, and off to sleep for 4 hours before this revisited again at 2 a.m.  Was able to get back to sleep, sleeping in until 6:45 which is unheard of for me.

After a quick breakfast, I headed over to the walk in, orthopedic practice. I am now on Prednisone, as is what I took the last time this happened, and will follow up with the back specialist next week.

Thanks for reaching out, I'm "ok" just getting through this.

Carol do you have a TENS unit? I find relief with that.

So sorry. Two of my nephews have spondylitis(arthritis of the spine) which I butchered the spelling of and have Humira injections twice weekly. My sis is a nurse so does it herself but is teaching older nephew how since he will be leaving for college in a year. Sis doesn't like the fact they have to have the shots at such an early age 14 and 19 but they do. Can you swim? That seems to really help them.

After all that you've been through, it isn't surprising that you had a flare. Hope that you will soon be better. Since you usually post consistently, I thought there might be some sort of a problem. Hang in there!

Sorry to hear you are unwell--I'm sure the closing/moving/home improving only added to your stressors. Hope your docs can help you feel better soon!

May you soon have relief, Carol. All of us miss you and want you to be pain-free.

My nephrologist of almost 7 years requires that I daily drink 3 quarts of water and permits no other beverage. My current GFR is 26. If I do not consume 3 quarts daily, my body reminds me with spasms, not that I believe your spasms are caused by kidneys. I have taken prednisone for 20+ years with success for polymyalgia rheumatica (30 mgs every other day), though I am allowed no pain meds except Tylenol for fever.

My comments my not pertain to you, but just in case...

So sorry you are having these medical issues. Hopefully the meds will help sooner rather than later. Hope you get some rest and relief quickly!
