Crock Pot Thursday: ham and pintos

One of THREE frozen, meaty ham bones is being used to cook up some dried pintos. A bay leaf, black pepper, 1/2 of  an opened pack of Goya ham bouillon, minced onion were added along with water.

 Homemade corn bread will accompany.

Tastey!

I won't/can't eat pinto beans, but that looks good right now.

While I don't like pinto beans, that looks delicious. I never cook hams, so I never have hambones. I suppose that is moot, since I cannot eat meat!

do you soak the dried beans before cooking them like this in the crock pot? I have lots of dried beans and need to start incorporating them. your pinto & ham dish sounds tasty!

CT-I did a quick soak (rinse, boil and let sit covered 1 hour, drain and proceed with recipe).

Since there are only 3 of us, I usually make a 9x13 pan of cornbread and freeze half for another meal. There is usually enough left over from half a pan for some of us to have it for breakfast the next day.
