Saturday soup: chowder!

The original plan was to eat up the 2 cans of ready to eat chowder with DD. Then the boys stayed here, due to the blizzard (DX plows). Ds #1 was maybe going to stay w/ gf, driving here after work, but the went right home: the further North they went, there was/is less and less snow. So soup for 4.
I sauteed 1/2 of a large onion in reserved bacon fat, then added the contents of the 4 cans along with 2 can's worth of milk, some black pepper, the l/o scallopped potatoes.
Pulled the saltines and oyster crackers out of the  kitchen cabinet
Corn-clam-potato chowder. Came out good.

That looks and sounds delicious! I love how you can rise to the occasion when you need to stretch things out and the way you always seem to turn out these delicious meals! :)

Dawn, I am thankful to have learned this talent from my great grandmother.

Raised in The Garden State, NJ, we always had delicious food. Everyone gardened, swapped, and bought from retail farmers. Imagine 50-cents for a gallon of dairy milk.
Walnut trees and fruit trees and bushes left no one hungry. Home preserved relishes and pickles too tasty to believe.

Passing our knowledge through the ages makes all the difference.

Thyme, as described, that was my own childhood in MA.
