Saturday soup day here again. Lousy weather, overcast , cooler, damp as it's supposed to rain. Tonight's soup helps get some leftovers out of the fridge: Christmas baked ham (in plastic bag), 1/2 of a large onion, a containr (red) of homemade chiken stock, some yellow split peas, a bay leaf, salt/pepper, the carrot and celery sticks from Christmas eve.
Additionally, the yet to be skimmed of fat, mug containing the pan drippings from the baked ham.
I washed the split peas, then added them to the awaiting soup pot, along with the other ingredients, some water.
Here it is around 1:30 this afternoon
4 hours later, this is tonight's soup, a version of my family's potage St Germain, French Canadian split pea soup. Perfect night for it! I am seated next to the kitchen window and just threw a fleece lap blanket over my shoulders, as it's cold by the glass.
