Planning ahead for Tuesday

Gathered pantry ingredients and defrosting 3 sweet Italian sausage links for Tuesday's family favorite: hamburger and macaroni, substituting the sausage for the pricier beef, especially as the sausage was purchased on marked down. Additional ingredients will be needed: spices, onion, celery, mushroom, peppers. Sides will be salad, canned green beans.

After removing the meat from the casings, I browned it and crumbled it before sauteeing the veggies with it.

Added the tomatoes, tomato sauce and spices, then refrigerated it fot Tues.

Did you remove the sausage meat from the casings? How did that work out? Just curious.

Kearny, Yes, I squeeze the bulk of the sausage meat out, then lay the not completely cleared out casing, on a chopping board. Using the backside of a pairing knife, I push down from one end of the casing the the other, forcing the remaining sausage meat out. I fried off the meat, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooked.
