What can I do with these?

Vanilla bean pods from a bottle of Penzey's double strength vanilla extract that I finally used up! Even with all of the baking that I do, I must have had it at least a year. Luckily, I have a back up bottle already in my spice cabinet.  What can I do with these? Can I place them in the sugar bowl, therefor making vanilla sugar? has anyone ever tried that? any other ideas?

Carol putting them in a bowl of sugar to make vanilla sugar is exactly what I would do with them!
Good thinking!

Either vanilla sugar or maybe stick them in the other bottle of vanilla or pick up a small (nipper size) bottle of good vodka snap the beans in half / split the beans and try to make more extract (won't be as strong as the original)

You can also chop them fine and add a small amount to ground coffee for vanilla coffee. Have they been split open? If they haven't been split, you can do that and squeak a bit more flavor out of them, add to a small amount of vodka for more extract, or just add to your new bottle of extract.

I was thinking the same thing.

these came out of a bottle of Penzey's double strength vanilla extract. My new bottle also contains them. I decided to make vanilla sugar, placing the 2 vanilla beans from the old bottle into my table sugar bowl. Already smells awesome!
